Let’s Move Colombia is a program of Yes We Serve, a non-profit organization with a goal to deliver new wheelchairs and mobility aids to physically disabled children, teens and adults in Colombia who are without mobility or the means to acquire a wheelchair.
There is a dire need for wheelchairs and equipment for handicapped persons in Northern Colombia. The government health care system cannot meet the needs, especially among the poorest portion of the population. A wheelchair does not only change the life of the recipient. Oftentimes the entire family life is transformed as children and other family members can now go outside and see friends, neighbors, attend school, and become part of the community.
The brand new wheelchairs we deliver are specific for the condition of the individual. For example, children and young adults with neurological or spinal conditions require special wheelchairs so that they do not fall out and which allow their bodies to grow properly. We buy the chairs in Colombia and deliver them personally..
A functioning wheelchair delivered to a person with special needs or without mobility improves the quality of life for the entire family. Children can go to school, adults can go to work to provide for their families and the elderly can move about more freely.
